When a Repair Has to Go to the Manufacturer

Some problems can't be fixed in the office. A cracked case, moisture damage inside the device, or a failed internal part needs the manufacturer's repair lab. When that happens, we explain what's wrong, check whether the hearing aid is still under warranty, and tell you the cost before anything is sent out. You'll hear from us at each step until the device is back in your ears, whether you're seen in Pittsburg, Fort Scott, or Kansas City.

Hearing Aid Repair FAQs

Common questions about hearing aid repair in Pittsburg: quick fixes to try at home, what can be repaired in the office, what repairs cost, and how long they take.

A few quick checks solve a surprising number of hearing aid not working calls. Start with power: put in a fresh battery, or make sure a rechargeable aid is seated properly in its charger and the charger is plugged in. Next, look at the wax guard and dome. Earwax buildup is one of the most common reasons sound goes weak or stops.

If the aid whistles, it may not be sitting deep enough in your ear. If Bluetooth won't connect, turn your phone's Bluetooth off and on and restart the hearing aids. Still not working? Call (620) 235-5015 or (816) 361-2300 and we'll get you in.

Many repairs take just minutes. Common in-office fixes include wax guard and dome replacement, cleaning blocked microphone and speaker openings, replacing a worn receiver wire on a RIC aid, new tubing on a behind-the-ear aid, cleaning dirty charging contacts, re-pairing Bluetooth, and adjusting the programming if sound has changed.

We also check for moisture damage and for whistling caused by a dome or earmold that no longer fits snugly. If the problem is inside the sealed case, the hearing aid needs to go to the manufacturer, and we'll explain your options before anything is sent. Many patients walk out of the same visit with working devices.

It depends on what's wrong and whether your hearing aids are still under the manufacturer's warranty. Small in-office services like cleaning, wax guard and dome changes, and adjustments cost far less than a factory repair, and follow-up care is included for devices fitted here.

If a hearing aid needs to go to the manufacturer, the price depends on the warranty status and the type of damage. Either way, you'll know the cost before any work is approved. Call (620) 235-5015 in Southeast Kansas or (816) 361-2300 in Kansas City with your brand and model, and we can give you a sense of what to expect.

Most in-office repairs are finished during your appointment. Every office sees patients by appointment, so call first and we'll set aside time for you. In Pittsburg, the office is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Manufacturer repairs take longer, often a week or two once the hearing aid ships, depending on the manufacturer and the repair. If you rely on your hearing aids all day, tell us when you call so we can talk about how to keep you hearing in the meantime. We'll keep you updated until the device is back. Call (620) 235-5015 to get started.
